Billey : I’d like to eat Soto Padang.
Jefrey : What do you think if we try to eat rice with rendang?

Jefrey : Orange juice.

Pre activities:

  • The teacher designs a conversation between friends in a restaurant that is used for learning with a communicative language teaching approach.
  • The teacher writes a conversational dialogue text to share with students who will have a conversation.
  • The teacher displays an explanation of the material or presentation related to the material to be studied and the learning objectives to be achieved, and without use mother tongue.

Main Activities:

  • The teacher explains authentic material related to conversations that will be studied and played directly by students, so they can find meaning in the conversation, and emphasize the communication aspect.
  • As a model, the teacher can read the conversation so that students can imitate the pronunciation, body expression, and intonation of the reading.
  • Divide students into several pairs of conversations.
  • Ask students to practice alone based on their partner.
  • The teacher as facilitator is required to monitor and ensure student progress in understanding the meaning of conversation, intonation, gestures, and expressions as real forms of daily conversation.
  • Listen again to their conversation and correct them.
  • Ask students to make presentations or role-play in front of the class based on conversations in a restaurant.
  • Ensure they do it based on the reality of communication and focus on real-life context.
